Wish I had additional information ... what you provided is awfully short. But, in general, slander is an untrue statement which is published (spoken) to a "relevant community" (peers, potential employers, etc.) which damages you. Within "slander" there is a category called "slander per se," which is stating that the person has committed a crime, has a loathesome disease, etc. In your case you may have a claim for slander per se. REMEMBER though, truth is _always_ a defense ... If you stole anything from that employer, they may be stating the truth (this is one reason that more information would be helpful in answering ...). In Washington, you can sue for slander and recover both actual and punitive damages.
