Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Washington

I would like to make a dvd with paintings of Christ to show to a church group for the purposes of learning about Christ. I am not getting paid, I am just teaching one class. I cannot possibly contact each artist to obtain permission to use the pictures. Does this violate copyright laws or does it fall under "fair use"?

Short answer to your question is no. Copyright law provides an educational exception and your use would constitute "fair use". I would just make sure to indicate on each painting who the copyright owner is. I would, however, not distribute the DVD.
