Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

Salaried employee getting salary docked for being sick or leaving an hour early

I work for a small company of 60 employees. I am a salaried employee. I have to leave early to go to the doctor or to pick someone up at the airport, our company accountant insists that I use vacation time or he will dock my check for the missing hour.

In addition, if I am sick, I have to use a vacation day or I do not get paid. Is this legal?

No I do not believe it is legal. For you to lose an hour's pay if you leave early means to me that you are not salaried. Do you get overtime when you work long hours? I think it makes sense for you to contact a lawyer or the Washington Department of Labor and Industries, Wage and Hour section to find out what the law is, then put your concerns in writing to your employer. Be sure to date your complaint and keep a copy because it can happen that companies retaliate for such complaints.
