Legal Question in Personal Injury in Washington

I have been a member of South County Senior Center in Edmonds Washington for several year. This year when I went to renew my member ship they ask that I sign a paper stating that I would not sue them for negligence. When I refused they would not except my member ship. Is this legal? and would the form holdup in court if I was injured do to their negligence?

It is common for various businesses or organizations to ask members, customers, employees, etc., to sign waivers in order to participate in certain activities. The question of whether the waiver is effective usually only gets answered if the waiver is tested in court.

That said, lawyers who look at waivers and the specific factual scenario under which the waiver in question was presented and signed can give you a better idea of whether the waiver is effective. What is important to know is that when determining whether a particular waiver is effective is a very fact-intensive process, so if you really want this question answered, I suggest you hire an attorney to consult on the issue.
