Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

Funeral Donations

Hello - During my mother's funeral, a lot of friends and relatives gave my family sympathy cards with cash donations for funeral costs. Are those cash donations considered part of my mom's estate, because my grandmother took them all, even though my sister and I paid for all funeral costs.

Thanks,

Debbie Ash

Re: Funeral Donations

Normally, the person who is responsible for holding the funeral gets the custody of those donated funds. How did you rgrandmother get her hands on that money? You shoul dmake demand upon her to pay it to you ASAP. Such donated funds are not part of your late mother's estate because they were not owed to her during her lifetime and were gifted after her death on a purely voluntary basis.
