Quit Claim Deeds and Executor of estate

My mother passed away six months ago and named my step father as the executor of her estate. In the will, her half of the family property was willed to me. Can my step father simply quit claim the property over to me?

I will assume that a probate case is filed, and the answer is yes (there is a special executor's quitclaim), and you will need to do a tax affidavit also.
