Legal Question in Immigration Law in West Virginia

Legalization Issue

My neice has been living with us since she was 2 1/2 years old. She just turned 11 and she is not here in the U.S. legally (I don't think). She is from Canada and her mother gave me legal custody when she came to the U.S. with us. What can I do to get her legal here?

Re: Legalization Issue

You need to adopt her then sponsor her. Legal custody alone does not give the qualifying relationship necessary to sponsor under immigration law.
