Legal Question in Technology Law in Wisconsin

Slander and defamation on an online board

My name has been slandered online on an internet forum or ''chat board''. I have contacted the administration of the forum and the administer of the board and have received no help in getting the remarks taken off the board. The remarks are false. Can I take legal action? If so who can I take legal action against?

Re: Slander and defamation on an online board

The action, if any, would be against the author of the remarks, if you can track author down, which is by no means easy if the author is computer savvy about spoofing.

The only partially effective remedy is usually to flame back an angry denial on the chatroom or listserv. Just be careful that you do not slander in return.

One saving thing here is that most people take everything on chat boards with skepticism because of the lawlessness of the web.
