Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin

Name change

My wife has a 10yr. old daughter and she wants the same last name as our's On her birth certificate it lists no father, sice he wanted no part in her life no support has ever been paid but my wife does not want him to find out since there has never been any contact since birth. How can we change our 10yr old daughters name for her.

Call 608-267-7820. It is Vital Records. Speak with Jane and ask for the application to change names. Don't be surprised if she says that you may have to file legal pleadings in court for a name change given the child's age. Good luck.

Unfortunately, you cannot change the name of a

minor without either obtaining the

consent of the biological father or terminating

his rights. The latter almost never occurs

without an adoption also taking place.
