Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin

remarriage before waiting period over from divorce

If someone is divorced in Wisconsin (legal resident of Wisconsin) in 1984 or 85 and gets remarried by a Justice of the Peace in Iowa before the six month waiting period is up after the final decree and now wants to get divorced, do they have to? Are they really married? And what do they do about the fact that they have filed joint tax returns and have ALOT of property, some of which was there before the ''marriage''.

Help.

Re: remarriage before waiting period over from divorce

This is a very complicated question and I suggest that you schedule an in person appointment with an attorney duly licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.

This is not legal advice. This is an answer to a general question without all the facts being present. Please contact me at (262) 642-4368 to discuss this further. Victoria A. Oleniczak
