Roth IRA ,Social Security,Mutual fonds

My wife and I are in the prosses of a devorce. How are IRAs, Social Security, Mutual Funds, and retierment Sar Seps handled ? Kids are over 21. Everything else material we have verbally agreed to. Thanks D. Buchel

Hello,

Usually social security is not provided for because it is individual, not joint. The other assets you mentioned are usually divided 50/50, like all the other assets and debts acquired during the marriage.

However, this is a rule of thumb. Sometimes assest are not divided equally, perhaps if one party is getting spousal support or maintenance.

It is not possible at all to counsel further, as so much depends on the facts of your particular situaion. Either you pay a modest sum for help with that, or you will have to determine that for yourself.
