Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Wisconsin

Punitive damages awarded by state...How long does defendant have to pay?

My wife was awarded punitive damages in an auto accident where the defendant was convicted of a felony, "recklessly endagering the safety of others".

The defendant was given a 3 year suspended sentence, 1-1/2 years probation, and 60 days in the House of Correction, with work release.

The judgement was 3 months ago. To date, we have received nothing. My question is, how long does the defendant have to pay? Can his wages be garnished? No one at the Court House seems to know the answer.

This is very basic information but you should contact an attorney licensed in Wisconsin to advise you as to how to collect. Contact your state or local bar association if you need a referral. Good luck!
