Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alabama

203.00 debt

I owe 203.00 to a collection agency. They have been incredibly degrading and rude, and as a college student making min. wage, i do not have the money.I am not so much concerned about my credit, but I would very much like to avoid going to court. What are the chances of them taking me to court for that sum of money if I do not pay it?When are they going to stop calling me?I have tried to set up a payment plan, but they refuse anything but the full amount.

Re: 203.00 debt

It is not likely that they will file suit for that amount, although they certainly have a legal right to do so. They do not have to accept partial payments, but the quicker you pay them, the quicker you will get them off your back. Their conduct can become a violation of the "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" if they go to the point that it becomes harassment. If you think it might be this bad, then you need to consult with an attorney in your area.
