Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama

Is a sentence reduction or appeal possible?

My question is: Is it possible to get a sentence reduction for my brother-in-law who is in prison in Alabama charged with Sexual Torture,Attempted Murder,Kidnapping. He was in prison almost a year before being tried, he had to use an over-booked public defender,he admitted to the offenses under the influences of Meth.and before he even knew what he was being charged with, the victum and he were family and involved and she filed no charges-just the state.

He got a triple-life sentence with the possibility of parole, he was told that if he fought this he would lose and get no possiblity of parole. Is it legal to imprison him up to a year without a speedy trial? Please help.

the right to a "speedy trial" can often be a relative term depending on the circumstances. if you can email me a brief synopsis on the circumstances your brother inlaw was held so long in carceration prior to his trial, i may be able to further assist you in this matter.

Since the offense and conviction occurred in Alabama, you should contact an attorney that practices criminal law in that state. The law varies from state to state. These variations can be considerable. Also the attorney must be licensed to practice law in Alabama.
