Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

I have been divorced for five years and my alimony is designated as "periodic". My lawyer failed to tell me that periodic means that I pay for the rest of my life or until my ex marries or cohabitates. I put her through nursing school before we divorced and she has been working since then.

Can I get my alimony settlement changed so that it stops at a certain time, say when I retire?

Periodic alimony is always modifiable. You should consult an attorney to see if you have grounds to reduce the amount you are paying. The amount is based on her need and your ability to pay.
