Legal Question in Military Law in Alabama

Army Officer pondering marriage to enlisted member

I'm a CW2 and have been dating a SSG for 2 years. Recently we've discussed marriage, though we know about the fraternization policy. We're unsure about the policy in regards to marriage. How should we proceed?

Re: Army Officer pondering marriage to enlisted member

Very Carefully - in a nutshell! Marriage, in the eyes of many CO's in the military is the ULTIMATE form of fraternization. But, it is not illegal per se, although I once represented an AF Captain who they accused of "fraternizing" saying that getting married was all the proof that they needed. We made the problem go away because the woman then transferred to the active reserves because as "punishment," they were going to send her to Korea and him to Germany... A couple of points, if she's in your chain of command, expect all sorts of "trouble" - if not, don't do what another of my clients did - have the reception at the Officer's club... that was rubbing in the CO's face too much, he got back from his honeymoon with an Article 15 as his present! Email me at my office, [email protected] with more specifics - I don't want you to reply hear with anything that might be privileged and confidential because this site is not a privileged communication.
