Legal Question in Elder Law in Arizona

mothers ability to make proper decisions

My mother has been living with the same gentleman for the past 21 years. She has for the last 6 to 8 years been getting progressively worse with dimensionia or pre alzhymers. They have been talking about splitting there assets and going there seperate ways. But now her partner called today and said she has given her half of there home that they bought together in arizona to him. This amounts to about 25000 dollars. Two weeks ago he called and talked to me and said she couldn't even figure out how to turn a light on or use the phone correctly. She needs this money when she goes into an assisted living complex. What can I do to stop this if anything.

Re: mothers ability to make proper decisions

You must take immediate action if you think that this man is financially exploiting your Mother. You can complain to Adult Protective Services or you can call the police where she lives. You can also go to the Probate Division of the Superior Court and seek to be appointed Guardian and/or Conservator of your Mother.

Do something right away.
