You can find your answer by going to the city, (Ex. Phoenix, Scotsdale, Yuma, etc) and checking the "Municipal Codes" or whether each such city has merely adopted the Uniform Building Codes. Ex California adopted and MODIFIED and each City has its own set of rules, ex: Los Angeles is different from San Dimas or Calabasas.

Generally there will be a minimum canopy height so that fuel and other large trucks don't upset the canopy when they off load or load.

The question is very very narrow and can only be responded to by a local Buidling Department. Call the city and ask--speak to someone in Planning or plan check departments. They will either answer your question or direct you to the appropriate section on the Web to get your own answer.

Also, variances can be obtained or if an existing structure rather than one to be built, the ansswers might change as well.
