Federal Law prohibits the use or possession of marijuana even for bonifide medical use. The Federal government doesn't consider use of marijuana as "accepted medical use." State law may provide certain protections, but if you have a federal job you will lose it or a job operating heavy equipment or driving.

Also, consider that the medical use of marijuana does not comport with the DUI laws. Even if you are not feeling the influence of marijuana, a heavy user will have it in his/her system for weeks after the last use. Its metabolite in your blood and the fact that you are driving is against the law. The issue is that without impairment, the State cannot arrest you and get the necessary toxicology to convict you.
