If a beneficiary is not given a copy of the will by the executor, despite being an adult son/daughter of the deceased, what steps should be taken to get a copy of the will?

Re: Beneficiary

An executor (what we now call the Personal Representative of the Estate)must be appointed by the Probate Court and the petition for appointment requires that the Will be filed with the Court as well. So, if the Will was filed with the Court and a petition for appointment of a personal representative, you should have been given notice in writing and a copy of the Will. You can also go to the court file and get a copy of what was filed.
