Legal Question in Employment Law in Arkansas

pay in lieu of two weeks notice

I requested to step down from i management position. The salary they offered was an insult to my experience so I turned in my two weeks notice. When I did, I was told that my services were no longer needed. I stated that they couldnt' fire me. The human resource officer told me that I wasn't being fired but that they didn't have to accept my notice, my services were no longer needed and to collect my personal things and get out. My question is this: is the employer required to pay me for the time my notice stood?
