dead beat dads benefits

can I find out if he was approved for benefits if I have his ssn? He is using the excuse that he has filed for benefits not to pay child support for over a year. I think he really filed in January of this year. Is the info I am seeking part of public records anywhere?

No. It's all personal and protected. If you have an order for child support, it is possible to make application to SS for garnishment of his benefits. You might ask at the SS office for help in submitting this request, but I doubt they would help you. You would be better of getting an attorney.
