Legal Question in Traffic Law in Arkansas

turning right at red lights

I recently received a ticket for turning right at a red light and immediately entering the left lane of a four lane street. I wasn't aware that this was illegal. The two lanes were separated by only a white striped line, which is indicative of having the ability to change lanes, if need be. No one was coming, and I completely stopped prior to the turn and used all of the appropriate turn signals. Can someone please tell me if I actually committed a traffic violation? I am a college student and truly do not have the money to pay this ticket. Thank you in advance!!! God Bless!!!

Re: turning right at red lights

Your are probably guilty of doing what a lot of folks do daily, and yes it is against the law and it does cause accidents. When you turn, no matter how many lanes, you are supposed to turn only into the closest lane! If you make a right, it is into the most right lane. If a left then you turn into the most left lane.
