Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

can I fire my attorney

I'm charged w/ 2 counts of sales, cocaine. My discovery only includes a lab report for one, I've asked my lawyer about getting the other lab report, he tells me its not a big deal. We just had a readiness confrence. My attorney told me he would be incontact with the D.A. to try to deal, but he always gives my an excusse why he is unable to talk with him. I fell like getting another lawyer, but I already paid him. Can I get another lawyer?

Re: can I fire my attorney

Thank you for your posting. Of course you do have the right to change attorneys, for any reason you like, and to fire your current attorney.

Have you taken all steps, however, to make sure that the attorney-client relationship can't be repaired, and that the attorney can zealously fight for your goals?

If you have any other questions or wish to provide more details, feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. It's my pleasure to assist in any way that I can.

Re: can I fire my attorney

Thank you for your question as to changing lawyers. Yes, you can switch attorneys at any time during a criminal matter with the Judge's permission. Normally, a Judge would not give such permission only when you were actually in a Trial, or without enough time just before Trial for another lawyer to become fully prepared to defend you adequately. Thus, you change attorneys based on what you've told me, and the question then becomes will the attorney refund some or all of the fee paid to him/her. If you would care to discuss the matter further, you may phone my office at (562) 754-7422, or contact me thru my email service. Thank you, Attorney Woodworth

Sure, as long as you are willing to pay him and then try to get back some of your money from the first attorney. I would be happy to help you; contact me if interested.
