Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

U.S. District Court -Getting Judge

File a law suit in fed. court. It has been over 2 weeks. Have case number but no judge assigned.

How long does court have to assign judge before I can move case out of state? Can I serve Defendants now or do I wait for a judge to be assigned to case?

Re: U.S. District Court -Getting Judge

In California, the end of the case number contains the initials of the assigned judge and magistrate. Some pro per cases are assigned to just a magistrate.
