Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

we are living with my inlaws and we pay for food for the house but not cash for rent my mother inlaw got into an agurment with one of our friends and now she is saying that he is not alowed over and if we bring him over she will write a 30 days notice to us does she have grounds for it

I don't know if she has grounds for it, since I don't know your friend and your mother-in-law. However, she has a right to do so, since it is her house. You can meet your friends outside the house, at the local coffee shop, etc. As long as you're not paying rent, you really don't have much of a say about the conditions in which you are living. It might be time for you to look into getting your own place.
