Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

I made reservations for a hotel after 72 hours if you want to cancel after that they will keep all monies. Even though I want to cancel 1 month ahead of reservation, can they do that.

Don't make nonrefundable reservations unless you're going to use the room.
