Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Taking Over Car Payments

I am taking over payments on someone car. I gave him $4500 down and I have made 2 payments. Now he is telling me that he wants his car back and if I don't give it back to him he will report it stolen. We have a contract for me to take over the payments. Can he do that and how can I protect myself?

Re: Taking Over Car Payments

You could protect yourself by never entering into such deals. At least have a detailed contract if you do. Now you are at risk he will do as threatened, and you'll have to deal with police and courts possibly. Right now it might make sense to have an attorney write to him and explain the facts of life, based upon your written contract. if this is in SoCal, feel free to contact me for help.
