Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

A credit card debtor froze my bank account. I had less than $500 dollars, and this was for food and bills. $200 was a direct transfer from a UI account. I don't have a job and don't know what to do. Was it legal to freeze everything I had?

It sounds like you have a judgment against you for credit card debt. The judgment creditor will have no idea what is in the account. You can file a Claim of Exemption with the sheriff's department to try and get the money released.

You need to file this form: http://www.courts.ca.gov/documents/ej160.pdf. You'll need to attach this form as well: http://www.courts.ca.gov/documents/ej165.pdf. You have a limited amount time to file the form to try and get the money back, so follow the instructions and do it right away.

And see a bankruptcy attorney.
