Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

A hotel in California is accusing me of a damage to a TV (old box TV) and a desk that I didn't do. What are my rights and can they charge me for what the items were worth (depreciated value)? Or can they charge me for brand new (flat screen) TV?

What does it mean to "charge" you? They cannot simply bill your credit card based on their belief that you damaged the items. They can ask you to pay or sue you if they feel you caused the damage. The law typically allows recovery of the cost to repair, not to exceed the value of the item at the time it was damaged (plus, perhaps, damages for loss of use for no more than the time reasonably necessary to repair/replace the item(s)).
