If your new lease doesn't start until 11-15-12 (Nov. 15, 2012), why worry? Just keep paying him the old rent for another 11 months, or until he catches on. You have at least until 1-15-12 to find a new place or negotiate a better rent.

A lease cannot start before it ends. Does it really say it starts 11/15/12 and ends 11/14/12? or did you mean it starts 11/15/11 and ends 11/14/12? As for whether the rent increase is legal, that would depend on what lease you are under now and what it says.
