Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

My father passed away Jan. 11, 2011 he had no will. He's assets are less than $100,000.00. He was re-married. My step mother gifted his vehicle to me, and my brothers. The title of the vehicle was solely in my fathers name. I went to the DMV provided death cert., filed non-probate- next of kin to inherit the vehicle, and signed the title on behalf of my deceased father. Now my step mom is pissed off at me and wants the vehicle back. She is suing me in small claims court for $7,500.00 she is not requesting the car back. Do you think I will end up having to pay her back for the vehicle even thou she willing handed the title to the car and the keys? I have a witness (family member) who witnesses her giving me title and instructing me to go to the DMV to change the title into my name.

You will probably be safe in small claims court. Bring in your witnesses.
