Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I live in California, my husband died last year..am I responsible for a credit card he had that I had no knowledge of and did not ever use or sign on the account? I am already having payments for this taken out of my bank account every month by American Express and I wonder if I am even liable for these charges... help...

How is it that "payments are being taken out of your bank account"? Who authorized this? Did you agree to pay them? Did they sue you and get a judgment?
