Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I got a phone call today from a collection agency asking me to pay for something I owe 16 years ago. I think it might be a fraud call. What can i do to make sure?

The statute of limitations expired many years ago. Send the collector a certified letter disputing the debt and demanding that they stop contacting you. If they bother you again, consult a consumer rights attorney.
