Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

My sister entered into a contract to purchased a water filter about a year ago and became delinquent in several of her payments. Before she passed away she asked if I would take over the payments of the filter. I told her yes, When I called the company and asked for the balance they sent me a statement with $60. late charges. Since I did not incur the late charges am I still responsible to pay the late charges?

Sure you are. When you bought the contract from her you also purchased all the debts she owed under the contract. If that were not the case, when people had a large amount of late charges or penalties against them they would just sell the debt to someone else and the company who sold the product would not be able to collect.
