Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Being sued by a collection agenency

I am being sued by a lawyer collecting for Capitol One. I worked out a payment arrangement with this company but still filed an answer with the court because I dispute the ridiculous amount they are demanding. I recvd a notice of conditional settlement from them if I sign they will dismiss the case. But it is still at the disputed amount. Should I let this go to court instead and hope I can get the amount reduced to a resonable amount? What are my odds of beating them? I want to pay the original debt but not this extremely inflated amount that they are still trying to charge me interst on.
