Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

20 yr. old dui

i'm 62 1/2 years old. i applied for social security and was denied because they said i have a warrant outstanding in san jose, ca.

20 yrs ago i recieved my fourth dui in seven years. the lawyer i went to said there wasn't much he could do for me since it was a mandatory one year in jail. he also told me that if i were to leave the state, no one would come after me because it was a misdeamenor failure to appear, and the state would be happy to get rid of me.

i'v lived in guadalajara, mexico for the past 9 years. don't drink or smoke. I got married and settled into the community and retired. I haven't driven for twenty years. I use public transportation.

i have to return to san jose and turn myself in. i can't live without my social security. do i need a lawyer to try and get whatever penelty there is reduced?

all i want to do is throw myself at the mercy of the court, do the time and return to mexico.

any help or imput will be greatly appreciated.

thanks-

When you get to court aks for an attorney to represent you and you will be referred to the public defender. It would appear that you will qualify financially for the public defender.
