Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I currently have a bench warrant for failure to comply with a court order. I pled guilty to misdemeanor meth posession, and was sentenced to pay 410 dollars and enter a diversion program. I did neither. The warrant was issued in 2006 in california, I currently live in new mexico and am in rehab. what is my best course of action to take care of this?

You will want to hire an attorney in the jurisdiction of the Warrant to try to have it lifted. He can then attempt to negotiate a deal with the Court based on your current situation. My office is in Orange County (Southern California).

You'll have to turn yourself into the court and submit to their jurisdiction. Since it is a misdemeanor, that can be done through your attorney without your personal appearance. However, you face the court's annoyance for blowing them off, and your attorney will have to try to persuade the court to put you back onto probation on similar terms, to avoid simply getting ordered into jail on the original sentence. You'll have to provide your attorney whatever character proof to show you're turning your life around. If the court is in SoCal LA / OC area, feel free to contact me. You understand I assume, that if you try to return to the US you risk being arrested at the border on that warrant and transported to court. That won't get you the same outcome as doing it right and voluntarily.
