Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My brother in law is in county jail with 2 strikes on his record & now is charged with 2 new cases. He got arrested for culitivating he bailed out & then didn't show at court. He had to register as a sex offender that he has done for 10 years but due to him having a warrant he didn't show up so the cops finally caught up with him and arrested him. My question is generally speaking what is he facing? What can a paid lawyer offer him that a public defender can't? As he is asking family to help get him a lawyer. The PD said he is looking at 25 to life for each not running concurrent. Is that something that sounds true or is that the worst case scenario?

If he has two strikes, he is facing 25-life; that is what that law is about ... sounds true and is worst case scenario both. He needs a good attorney. I suggest the family meet with some attorneys local to where the case will be heard. Good luck!

With two strikes, his next conviction[s] each get him 25 to life, assured. There is no secret about that, it is the whole basis of the 3 Strikes Law, but theoretically everything is negotiable, and subject to plea bargain to strike the strikes in appropriate cases. If he is serious about actually hiring private counsel to help him in this beyond being one of a large number of cases on calendar each day for the PD, feel free to contact me.
