Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Charges dropped!! What happens next?

My boyfriend is on probation and got arrested on Thursday 4/30/09. I found out later on Saturday from county jail that they dropped all his charges and he hasn't gone to court yet. So, if they dropped all the charges then what happens next? and How long they are going to keep him in jail? Is he getting out soon and how soon?

Re: Charges dropped!! What happens next?

He may still be facing a violation of probation allegation. It's a lower standard of proof and they can use evidence that may be otherwise inadmissible in a new criminal prosecution.

Or, depending on exactly when he was arrested, Monday may be the last day for the DA to either file charges or release him. If they don't file, he'll be processed out and released... unless they file the probation violation against him.

He should be released today, unless he is on probation and they are holding him for a probation violation.
