Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Domestic Violence

Me & my boyfriend had a disagreement about a month ago. As I was trying to calm him down he was trying to get me out of the way & accidentally hit my left corner eye and caused it to got red. he then ran outside and HE CALLED THE COPS & well I guess he didn't realize he hit me but it back fired on him the cops came and at first they were not going to arrest him but then decided to call the captain out for a 2nd opinion and well they arrested him & took pictures of my face. They asked if I knew how he hit me, was it with an open hand closed fist ect. I said I didn't know cause at the time I was all crying and didn't remember. he posted bail 2 days later and we still live together. he has no priors . I did not press charges & he has his arraignment in 2 1/2 wks. I would like to know how do we go about getting this dropped. should he plead not guilty and see if the DA can form a case against him or should I see what the charges are & see if they can give him a lesser charge what are his options? I am already aware of going to court so we can get a peaceful contact to still have contact with one another. I just need the help with what we need to do at the arraignment and after Please Help!

Time to face reality: the only "help" from this site that is of any value is going to be a strong recommendation that you get an experienced attorney to represent him. He faces serious charges with severe penalties, whether you "press charges" or not. The DA policy is to vigorously prosecute with or without your voluntary cooperation. Prosecutors finally got tired of victims like you begging them to drop the charges because 'he loves you' and 'won't do it again', only to find later that the victim has been killed or beaten senseless by the same perp after release. That's the background that you and he have to overcome with the help of counsel.
