Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My question involves criminal law for the state of: i was recently got caught shoplifting at macy's $ 59 worth of clothes. i was taken to the back by an LP officer which then made me sign a paper saying i would not enter their store for 3 years. i was also given a civil demand for $395. the police was never called, i didn't get finger printed nor did i receive any kind of citation.

My question is what happens now? When i pay the civil demand is it over? or will i still be prosecuted and end up having to go to court and have a criminal record?

You might still be prosecuted. At best you will be on the national theft database forever.

Paying the store their demand does NOT prevent them from filing and prosecuting criminal charges. Most stores do exactly that. Hire an attorney to TRY to negotiate a 'civil compromise' that keeps them from doing so, or to defend you if charged.
