Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Search and Seizure

I was pulled over (by detectives)because the passenger in my car was a Wanted Felon. My car was searched, and now my car stereo is missing! The passenger was arrested and his personal property was seized and I think my stereo was caught up in the mix. No charges were filed on me, & I have my car back. How can I find out where my stereo is? How can I get it back?

Re: Search and Seizure

Go to the police station and report the missing car stereo. If that does not result in the return of your car stereo contact internal affairs department of the police department. The stereo may have been taken by an employee of the tow company.

If you do not get the stereo back or payment of its replacement value, file a claim against the police department for the loss of the stereo. When the claim is rejected then sue in small claims court.
