Legal Question in Discrimination Law in California

Parking your own RV in your own driveway.

I think that the City of San Dimas, CA is discriminating against me by enforcing a city ordinance which does not allow RVs to be parked in your own driveway. Citizens who have RV access to their side and or backyards have no problem and are of no concern to the city regarding this issue. Decades ago ''city officials'' approved most of the plots, plans, and layouts of the homes that have been built in this city in the last almost 50 years. Within the last year or so the city has hired a code enforcement officer and he is spreading misery in various parts of the city by sending out letters to those of us with a RV in our driveway. Many of us are older retired people and we do no have the funds to rent an RV storage site because in my area there is a long waiting list, its usually more than 20 miles to a rental facility and there is a long waiting list to get in even if one could afford the $200 to $300 per month for the rental. This needs to be taken to the U.S. Supreme Court because many cities and their citizens are battling over this issue. In my case, I think that it is pure discrimination. Thank you for any help or advice that you may e-mail to me.

I am sympathetic to this issue. Do you know other citizens with RVs who are affected? Has San Dimas fined any of them or taken other action? Fell free to email us if you would like to discuss further. Gordon Fauth, [email protected].

You are between a rock and a "hard place". Assuming your facts are accurate, you might have a case, but there are various senior law centers who might fight this for no charge.

Check with local Legal Aid Societies.

Good luck!
