Legal Question in DUI Law in California

They took my car and let me walk home!!!

I recieved my first offense for a dui 2 years ago. After a field sobriety test and admitting to consuming alcohol, I (at the time 19 years old) was allowed to walk home after they impounded my car and took my info. This doesnt make sense. Couldn't they have arrested me for drinking in public at the traffic light? Almost sounds like entrapment. By the way, I didnt show up to my hearing.. what can I do? Better yet, what type of penalty am I looking at? Thank you.

Penalty? Guaranteed substantial fines; and if you don't turn yourself in through counsel and take care of the outstanding arrest warrant before they take you away in cuffs, then a fair amount of jail time. The courts don't like people ignoring them and their notices to appear. Feel free to contact me if interested in doing it right, and minimizing the chances of, and length of, jail time.

This would be a great time for you to show up at the courthouse and 'fess up (to not appearing at your hearing, not the DUI charge). Else bad things will happen when you least expect them. Bring a lawyer or your toothbrush.
