Legal Question in DUI Law in California

Failed to pay dui fine, now they want the entire balance.

In january of 2003 I was cited for DUI. Im an auto technician at a local dealership. My employers insurance provider was informed and I was allowed to work. July 2003 a review of policy was done and again dispite the DUI, I was allowed to workon and drive cars. Two days before christmas I received a termination letter due to non-renewal of insurance for me to drive customers cars. No notice or anything. It was christmas ,I spent my savings on presents and now i'm unemployed. I couldnt make rent, had to move, and seek other work. In february I called the courts and informed them of my new address. In march after 3 months of non payment, I called to make payment. Informed that the fine was in collections and now is $1750, Pay the full balance or no license. Now I cant drive or work cars due to hold on license . Totally unfair insurance practice and unjust court desision about hold on license. What can I do?

Get the case set back on calendar and explain your situation to the judge. There are alternatives to paying the fine, such as sitting it out in jail, public service and a payment plan. If you can get a payment plan setup and make the payments you should be able to get your license back to allow you to drive and earn the money to pay the fine.
