Can I represent my son in a DUI case?

My 18 year old son was charged with DUI under 21 in California. He is presently 300 miles away from the court venue at college. Can I represent him in court and plead guilty for him or must I get an attorney to to this for him?

You cannot represent your adult son in court. You'll have to hire a lawyer to do it.

IF YOUR SON INTENDS TO PLEAD GUILTY, ISUGGEST THAT YOU GO TO THE COURT AND ASK TO SEE THE PUBLIC DEFENDER. ASK HIM FOR A "TAUL WAIVER". THIS IS A FORM THAT WILL HAVE TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE COURT WILL TAKE A PLEA. A LAWYER WILL BE NEEDED BUT THE FEES CAN BE MINIMIZED BY DOING SOME OF THIS LEG WORK. ALSO, YOU MIGHT CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR SON QUALIFIES FOR THE PUBLIC DEFENDERS ASSISTANCE. IF SO, THE COST WILL BE MINIMAL.
