2. Next, click the "Request refund Direct Deposit" link from the "Finances" section.
3. Indicate �Yes I want refunds deposited directly into my bank account.�
4. Provide your checking/savings information, then click �Continue�
5. Submit your information to complete your sign up.
Can a college legally demand MANDATORY access to a student's bank account as the ONLY means to refund
money due the student? This does not seem appropriate to me.

Every university that I have dealt with has alternative methods of payment, including refunds. These are typically direct bank deposits or by issuing a check. It is far easier and cheaper for them to use the direct bank deposit; hence, their insistence on this as being "mandatory". Have you talked to your university's comptroller or accounting dept.? Exactly why do you object? Have you explained your objections? In a way the direct deposit method is discriminatory since not all people have bank accounts.
