Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

I've written a screenplay based on a song, which is also in the movie. Do I need to get adaptation rights? If so, I'm not entirely sure how to contact the band. Is there an adaptation form or process that I would have to go through?

Thanks so much,

-Max

Depending on how you used the song, you will likely need a music release from the owner of the song and/or the owner of the sound recording. Feel free to contact me or an entertainment attorney in your area for further consultation.

Kind regards,

Jim
