You may not be prosecuted because he is a relative, but to avoid legal issues you can petitiion to become his guardian. Guardianship is temporary and can be terminated by you at any time. Typically, your local bar association has a non-profit organization that can assist you with preparation of the petition. It is not difficult and the forms can be found online. There are financial issues. The filing fee and investigation report are around 700 total, but if you are not financially able the court may waive the costs. This requires preparation of a form for fee waivers.
